Antique and collectible...........he should be asking a lot more. IRRC those tire inflators are still available. Would come in handy of some of the older equipment.

I remember those. Dad had one because we did not have an air compressor. I have always wondered or thought you were creating an explosive tire with the gas fumes going in.

I had a JD pump, mounted on PTO.
I might have it still, cant recall where I stored it. A neighbor had one, kept it on his rake tractor while custom baling for us and others. |

Those had flapper valves in them, they drew in fresh air into the cylinder, not threw the carburetor, and then pushed it into the tire.

They weren't just found in tractors- they were commonly found in the trunk of just about anything from a 29 Ford A on up to the mid '60's...

The one my neighbor had used the air going through the carb, worked ok but you got the gas in the tube too which wasn't good for the life of the tube.

I've used one, it was probably 1969, on the farm to air up a tire. I guess I shoulda mentioned that I used it with a WD45 to air up tires.

I assume the valves were in the piston |

Had not thought of that method of filling tires in years. The adapter and hose where under the seat in the pickup at all times. I don't remember dad ever having hand pump to fill tires. I am sure the one here had 2 or 3 different thread sizes to fit any spark plug size they had back in the day.
Anyone here with more than a big lot in town that does not have a air compresser today? Many of us have 2 or more. The first compresser on the ranch showed up right after the gooseneck stock trailer. Dad had away of getting around out in the hills without 4 wheel drive.

We have a JD as well. Used it once. That's enough.

You only had to forget it was hooked up once. While you were fixing the bale knotter or something else. NEVER do that again!
Then there's the one you hooked to the milk line to do chores when the power was out.... |
