   It's been a long time since this old girl had matching rear tires and rims. One rim rusted thru and Daddy just put on an after market rim and tire on it and kept on farming. It didn't bother him, but it did me, so I had to do something about it. It started when I finally found a matching rim at the GOTO in Pontiac.

It needed a few repairs. This hole was about a quarter inch in diameter. After using a wire brush and chipping hammer on it, it end up being about an inch long and half inch wide.

It took a little more welding than expected. It was mostly just to build up thin/weak metal.

The dents I was worried about. They were all around the inside flange.

They weren't that bad. I used a little heat and pounded them out on a steel block. Not perfect, but suits me.

Took the new rim and the rim off the tractor to be sand blasted.

Other than the repair job, the new rim looks better than my original. Less pitting.

These are defiantly matching rims. Both say Firestone 10-24. I found a hair line crack in my old rim after sand blasting. You can see were I welded it near the rivets.

Used the etching primer first, this is the high build primer.

I used PPG Omni paint. The color is Hyundai starlight silver. I just picked it out of a sample book at the part store.

I spent way to much time looking for tires. It's a long story. I found what I wanted at three places. I order them from one place, and after weeks of waiting they told they was unable to get them. I went back to the other two places and they also could no longer get them. I finally found another place that could get them, So here they are.

These tires were almost $100 dollars more than the SAT IIs. $398 vs $304, I think I know why these tires were still around. They had been buffed.

They buff tires at Bridgestone everyday. It's common practice. They do it to remove high spots and such. I really don't know if they sell them at a discount or not (they should). Long story short, I ended up paying $385 for the tires. That's not much of a discount, but I still rather have them than the SAT IIs. Also, they may be the last field & Road tires in the state of Tennessee.

These tires are 11.2-24, same as I was running. I wanted wider ones, but wider also means taller. 12.4-24 are three inches taller than these tires. I was afraid that would speed the tractor up to much. It's to fast pulling the tiller as it is. Also a big jump in price from one size to the next. Anyway, I think they look good so I'm pleased. I took the tractor for a little road test today. She rode nice and smooth. Now it's on to other things, mainly hydraulic leaks. I found another big one while putting the wheels on, but that's for another post. I hope no one was bored with long post. Thanks for looking, Ranse.
