I have sent all four of loader cylinders to the hydraulic shop to be fixed, they called today and told me that three of the rods were pitted pretty bad (the loader sat outside for years before I bought it). To do everything right (the only way in my mind) is going to cost $830.00!!! Yikes!

Well that seems extreme what size is the rod, because it can be bought and a machine shop can machine the threads on the end and weld the end on, we have done this many times, if you tell me the rod size I can tell you the cost of the rod.

I have made new rods for several cylinders. That price seems a little high to me but I haven't priced chrome stock for more than 2 years. We all know prices have changed drastically on some things in the past 2 years. I would get dimensions on the rods and lengths and go to a local machine shop and ask for an estimate for new rods.

Claus,
Some shops will tell you they can fix them but actually send them somewhere else and charge you what it cost them times two. Years ago, I was quoted a price from a well known hydraulic shop in Wichita and found out they got them made by another shop. I saw the delivery truck from the other shop unloading rods and cylinders. Put two and two together and called them for a quote. The rest is history. Not only did they make new rods but they reassembled and sealed the cylinders for me. Check around the other shops in your area and compare prices. |

I bit the bullet and shelled out the $800.00+, put the cylinders on last week. Shop made the dump cylinders too short, stop about an inch before hitting the stops. Sometimes you don't get what you pay for.

Take them back and ask them to make them right. No sense shelling out that kind of money and getting shorted. [pardon the pun]

1 inch on stops is probably 2 inches of cylinder. |
