Takes a picture. There were several possibilities and the year will be very difficult to identify because they made the same plows for decades. You'll have to find a number on a plow bottom part to identify the bottom, because bottoms and plows are in different parts catalogs.

Unless VERY old the plow is either a #1 (common) a #4 (very uncommon) or even a #2 (very rare to possibly a myth). It is a safe bet that it is a #1. And as Gerald stated they were made from sometime early in the 1900s to I believe the mid 50s. No way to positively date them that I am aware of. There was two kinds of trip hitches. early and late, if the rubber is factory it would be a later plow. Also if you find traces of green paint that would date it too. The color change from green to orange by A-C came about the same time as the purchase of the La Crosse implement Co whos color also happened to be green, but that is a pretty fine hair to cut, LOL Edited by Butch(OH) - 22 Jul 2010 at 7:45am |

Steve, Butch is one of our plow experts. His answers are probably more than what you will get from anybody on here.
If you had pictures of it someone could maybe tell if the rubber tires were original(Maybe) If they are it is probably a late production model #1 and would have been Persian Orange Number One. As for decals, it probably had only an Allis Chalmers decal. |

The plow should be the #1 Persian color all over. The did not use decals on them everything was stencled. The backs of the moldbords carried the bottom number and furrow width. On top of the main beam was stencled Allis-Chalmers mumber "X" (1,2,4) plow.
