I like the 14.9-28 size and look. That would normally be considered one size over stock which was a 13.6-28.
Here is Nic with our family WD and 13.6-28's: Here is same tractor with the 14.9-28's: Good luck with your tire selection. Regards, Chris |

At least the older WD's had 12.4 X 28 as original tire size. I have wide enough rims on mine now for 16.9 X 28.

First WD's were 11 x 28 which is 12.4 x 28. Option was 12 x 28 which was 13.6 x 28. Only the WD-45's had 13 x 28/ 14.9 x 28 as an option.

Persoally I like the 13.6 - 28s on a WD, and 14.9 - 28 on a WD45, and 12.4 - 28s on the styled WCs, and 14.9 -24 on the unstyled WC.

For a long time the tire width was the width of the rim and the tire at the beads. Later the tire width changed to be the widest part of the tire a larger number than the tire and rim width at the beads.

Dad ran 14.9's on the skinny WD rims for many years. I came up with some 45 rims for the last set in the early 80's

Our WD is a narrow front with 13.6x28s on the rear and looks good that way. Our WD45 is a wide front with 16.9x28s on the rear and looks just as good even with them mounted on 12" wide rims.

Sugarmaker -- Oh man, a WD with white wheels! I am torn... One of my WDs is orange wheels. My other one is orange on the left side, white on the right side. Not sure what happened to make it be that way (possible parts swap from a D-series?). Did they actually make WDs with cream colored wheels? I like the look.

Garden guy, No that's just a want a be D series look! Dad had a couple WD's painted like that in the 60's when the D's came out. I still like the look, but it does stand out in a row of correct Allis painted tractors. Lionel Those both look good! I like the look of the 16.9 on the wide front. Man you have all the weight options on those too! Very nice! Regards, Chris

Since I have 2 WDs, and that is how grandpa had it, I would have the one redone with white wheels instead of orange. And leave the mesh screen on the front. Then the mowin' tractor would definitely be orange! |

Thanks! Though retired, they are both still set up the way that they were when each was actually Grandpa's main tractor on the farm with the only exception being that the WD had the liquid ballast removed from the rear tires about a decade ago. The WD has 1 set of rear steel weights while the WD45 has 2 sets on the rear. The WD45 weighs in right @ 6k lbs the way she sits in the picture.
