Ran 6060 out of fuel..I think

I knew i was low on fuel but guage showed 1/4  and stick in tank showed about 3 inches.
I was brush hogging, tractor surged and then quite.  I figured I was out of fuel.  Put in 5 gallons and tried the starter, hit the ether button and it started.  Figured I was lucky.  Before I got under motion it quit.  We loosened the ejector nuts and cranked till we had fuel, tightened everything up and it started, ran for 30 seconds and quit.  Got it turned around and headed down hill.  It would start and then quit.  Start and quit.  

Thinking I picked up some crud from bottom of tank and have the line or filter plugged.   That's where I am starting to look in the morning.

Any brilliant ideas??????   HELP

Could be flex ring coming appart and plugging the return on the pump.

You can also remove the primer plug on the fuel filter and if nothing runs out blow air back into the tank to remove the blockage. I Have been there with my 6080. Not fun.

Your kidding me, what’s the chances we had the same issue mowing hay this evening on dads 6060. We both apparently have dirt in our tank or the screen in the tank is getting clogged. I had no fuel to the filter bleeder valve. Put in 5gals of fuel which just probably moved the dirt around. Got fuel to the bleeder, bleed the rear of the pump and she fired right up. Need to drain the tank, pull out the drain and either clean it or replace it. Also flush out the tank.

Don't blow back into tank!!! That only prolongs the problem. Find the blockage and take it out.
Before doing anything, loosen timing window bolts until fuel runs out then see if it will run. If it does, get pump rebuilt.     MACK

Been there, done that. 
6080 had to take tank off and flush. Dusty environment of chicken litter....

I am waiting for the Carquest to open and then get a filter.  Will start at the tank.   There are so many nooks and crannies in 6060 fuel tank, almost anything could be hideing in there.

The valve in the tank was plugged.  I am going to drain the tank and strain the fuel.

Had the fitting out of the tank, there is no screen or anything, just a 3/4 inch stand pipe.  Is there a screen or something in the tank?  Got tractor on a block so it is tipped to the right.  Will flush it and then change the filter.  Anything else I should do.

Treat all fuel from now on with anti bacterial like Bio Kleen or something.

If it has something in there blocking flow and there isn't much fuel in it I would recommend taking the tank off and dumping out whats in there and if possible pressure wash or at least hose it out somehow.  That plastic tank is fairly light and easy to get out on those.  When I first got mine it didn't have much fuel in it so I pulled the tank and fuel sender, pressure washed it, let it set out in the sun upside down.

I have had the same problem.  the tank will flex enough to get it out from under the cab.  Be sure to remove the outlet from tank or you cannot get it through the hole in the metal. I had little pieces that looked like leaves only was a film from the inside of tank coming off. Took off tank and pressure washed upside down.  only way to get it all.  there is a lip under the fill neck inside tank that will not let all the water out.  you have to leave it outside in the sun and it will dry out.  Enough places in the bottom of tank that it will not completely empty out completely either. good luck

I drained the tank.... 15 gallons, strained it and didn't find any dirt. I sure hope all the dirt was in the valve!  Gunk didn't look like bacteria, more like grease or bugs.  Tractor is open station, if it happens again the tank will have to come out.  Strained the fuel twice and changed the filter, it's running.

Pulled the tank on ours today, power washed the inside. Only thing that game out was a pull tab from a fuel additive container. Guessing it floated over the pipe and shut off flow when it got down to a 1/4 of a tank. The fuel shut off was clean. Ordered a new grommet from SLI, be here Tuesday. Was quite a chore to get out. Should give the tank plenty of time to dry out.

This is the grommet in the bottom of the tank that needs to be replaced if you take the tank off to clean. $14. It should be removed before you clean the tank in order to get out what ever is in your tank. Grab and wiggle out with pliers
