My new WD45

Hello everyone. I just got home with my first WD45...... It's been sitting for 18 months.

And the fun begins! Welcome.

Everything is impossible until someone does it! WD45-trip loader 1947 c w/woods belly mower, 1939 B, #3 sickle mower 1944 B, 2 1948 G's. Misc other equipment that my wife calls JUNK!

Welcome to the Forum! That is a neat find. Spray some orange paint on it and it will look much better.

Thanks guys..... not my first old tractor, but it is my first bigger AC, I did have a 720 and still have a 712S. Even though I'm a fairly young guy, I love old iron.

Right now I'm working through checking it over to see what's broken, not working right, missing, etc on it. I got it running in less than an hour after dragging it home. The tank had water and other nasty in it..... flushed that out, put in some fresh gas and a hot battery.... I bet it didn't turn over 3 times until it was running.

It does have a slight pop/miss/puff sound from the exhaust while it's running. All 4 plugs look fine, are gapped correctly, and are similar in color. The plug wires are all connected good at the cap and plugs, and are in the correct firing order. The points look good and are gapped at .020. The valves are all set correctly and the tractor has 130 psi compression on each cylinder. The previous owner was told that it was rebuilt not long before he bought it 10 years ago. I took the carb apart and it was fairly clean inside to start with.... I cleaned it and put it back together, and adjusted it with no change in the miss/puff situation.

As far as the way it looks...... I'll eventually paint it....but they have an "ugliest tractor" trophy at the local show coming up this summer..... I think I'm solidly in the running for that award LOL.

I feel like you can hear the sputter or random change in sound better in this video.

Good Find. When I started my rebuilt WD engine it had a slight miss at slow speed. I moved the timing just a tiny bit and it smoothed right out. My D-17 would miss once in a while at idle. I put a hotter coil on it and that fixed the problem.

Looks a lot like my 45 project! I need to get a comprerssion tester! Good job checking it over and getting it running. Doesn't sound to bad to me.

The link rod from the governor arm to the carburetor is on bass-ackwards. This can make the governor linkage stick and bind.

	I've had a couple 45's they are a good tractor in that size range. If it were me I would find a light to moderate load and just use it for a while, it may come out of it. Looks like a recent new manifold.

	I didn't think I would EVER SAY this about a WD45, but that is one UGLY tractor! I think you could be a winner in that contest..... You can bring her back in a hurry right after the contest, an number 1 is getting her back to Orange....PLEASE,,,,,LOL. You know, you could easily lose that trophy when some one comes with a NEW John Deere....THEY ARE UGLY brand new!!
