Have a 715 backhoe. Forward works pretty good when transmission warm but in cold weather does not want to lock up and only moves in reverse. I can get it to go forward but it is slipping. 4th gear has always slipped. 3rd won’t pull a hill.

I am assuming an overhaul will be in order.

What is the model so I can check with local guys to setup overhaul?

Our 715 lost all gears but 2nd. Took it out and couldn't find the gears to rebuìld. Found a used one on craiglist for 500. Not a bad swap to do.
Ya cain't fix stupid.

Someone on here listed a kit for the clutch pack back when i was having problems - believe they were out of Michigan
The fwd/rev clutch pack is bad - needs rebuilding R&R is suppose to be about 10 hours according to book .
It's a common problem and one of items that needed repair . Fwd goes bad and reverse will still work some - and yes 4th and 3rd lose power to drive and the more its used the more the clutches wear and fail

Ah yes - I needed my machine so had a Ford Dealer (Carleson Tractor of Rosemount MN) who said they could do it repair mine while i rented a machine from them to finish jobs i had - I had a spare parts kit from when i bought the machine so gave them my manuals and parts - (they are now out of business)
Took them over a week to repair - charged me 40 hours labor + rental for transmission jack - said kit was short 3 "O" rings which they charged $80 for .
Got in quite a hassle with their shop foreman - he questioned if my check was any good - I questioned his legal birth - but as they had my machine and i needed it I paid .
Unit went bad again within 25 hours of use ( $4000 down the drain to crooks )
Same outfit went after my oldest son for some bill they said he had - took him to conciliation court in 3 different courts - different counties - then here in Wash Co - judge here dismissed all charges with prejudice - told them he would recommend to my son to file harassment charges in District Court against the dealership and owners .

The transmission is a Borg Warner 4 speed box - the fwd / rev unit is a hydraulic clutch pack with a torque converter in front - there are pressure rating measurements to help identify problems also in repair manual

If you want a man to be a successful farmer, give him a Allis Chalmers tractor. If you want him to be a successful mechanic, give him a John Deere
