Forgive me for I have never owned anything but a little garden tractor. I'm a decent gear head but fairly clueless about tractors.
That said, on an impulse I ran across what I think is a 1980 AC 5020 4WD tractor. It just really spoke to me and I bought it. Probably over paid but such tractors are much in demand here (Texas Hill Country). The 4WD has been disconnected because of a bearing issue. Has a loader (not factory) on it that works. Starts, runs, drives but looks pretty worn out.
I'm guessing that parts are going to be an issue but other than the bearing, everything else seems to function. I'm mostly looking to find out where to look for parts, decals and such if they are available at all. I'd like to fix the 4wd and just get it looking more presentable. I'd like to be able to park it in front of the shed instead of behind it. (-:}

actually, that is an allis branded loader. Model 430. Have one on my 5020

in the on-line AGCO Parts Book you can find the parts breakdown for the 5020 FWD http://www.agcopartsbooks.com/PartsBooksN/login.aspxJust click on View Books as Guest User; no need to register, then type in 5020 Whether or not AGCO has the parts would take some investigation or calls. Also, if you have the old bearing out, there should be a mfg's part number on it which can be cross-referenced if needed.

It did come with a shop, operators and parts manuals too.
Loader looks like it had CAREY STANLEY (close) written on the side of it (very faint, painted over).

It is a Japanese built tractor made for Allis Chalmers. The company which built them is no longer in business, so parts can be very hard to find. A local print shop can make decals for you if you bring them the old ones to use as a pattern.

Guy I got the tractor from told me the guy HE got it from told him it only needed a bearing and he had taken these shafts out. I was told the tractor runs fine as long as I don't put it in 4wd. Seems odd to me. I just wonder what all kinds of crud have gotten in there. One shaft looks pretty good but one is caked in dirt. Assume the dirty side is where the bad bearing is.
Steering is really loose, like half a turn of slop at rest. Are these issues possibly related? Slop seems to in the steering box as the steering rods don move at all where the play is.
May have gotten myself more than I bargained for. What a way to make a fun summer project!

Google Hinmoto E series tractors, also MF 1020 is made by Hinmoto. Nearly same tractor, not sure about parts interchangeability between brands. I was tempted to go the AC 50 series fer a small asian tractor, but kuboters is plentiful, around here, and I got one that is a platform, not a step over the tranny model like the old AC's are.

The front wheel drive was the problem on these. Hopefully it is just a bearing....

I assume the lever up is engaging the 4wd? I can only find 3 sentences on the 4wd operation in the operators manual and no mention of which way is which. Just telling where the lever is and to disengage it on hard surfaces. Up just seems logical and since mine is disconnected, I want to be sure nothing is turning in there.

Those fronts are problematic and no parts are available.I have a Massey Ferguson 220
its the same as an AC 5030 that had a torn up 4WD when I bought it, took the front end off a parts AC 5020
I have and turned it into a 2WD.If its only the bearings you can get those I think.

my guess is the bearing went bad and the ball bearings messed up the gears in the front. if the steering is sloppy moving side to side it's probly the rubber bushings in the steering tube, if the steering wheel moves up then the pinion bearing is bad and or the snap ring left loose you need to replace it before the gears get wore out!
good machines, but parts are hard to find. I had no problems finding the bearings for the front inside the final drive.
edit: by the steering moving up I meen look under the steering wheel, is the wheel tight to the steering tube or can you see the steering shaft?
