About a year ago this I posted a pic of a neighbors 8070 after it cought fire, they wanted me to post an update.
They decided to fix it back up since the drive train was unharmed. They got some new panels, cab, lots of misc parts, complete rewire and paint and lots of patients. The ol gal is ready to back to the field, looking pretty good. They would appreciate any comments. I think it's new nickname it "ol smokey". ![]() Leon B

What was the reason for the fire?

I think they pinned it down to one of the battery cables grounding out to a hyd line, 24 hours after it was parked.

I never got to operate an 8000 series tractor. I always thought they look really nice. I would love to see what they would have evolved into....
Nice job saving "Old Smokey"! John

That's amazing, a lot of hours in that. I am a pretty stubborn man, but I think I would have given in on that one. Trev.

Wow, please tell them that their 8070 looks marvelous!
Did they get any insurance money to help the cause? Did they visit a salvage yard, have a donor tractor, or just peice it from components from members from this great AC forum? |

No donor tractor but yes to the salvage yards and members here. I can't comment on the insurance part for sure.

A round of applause for your neighbors for saving a great tractor. Looks great! And, sad to say, we can't buy A-C tractors anymore.

It was my family's farm that this happened to. Thanks to Leon's dad, who happened to stop by the time the fire started, it could have been a lot worse. Thanks to Leon for posting the pictures, and thanks to ILGleaner for all the help and the parts for the tractor.

good job on saving a good tractor! I know it was a lot of work and maybe some frustrations, but you still have a great tractor, one you can't replace with any brand and get the performance out of them that this one will give you!!

That is amazing I can just picture the hours of cleaning it up alone just to figure out what you needed to do. I have been around a burnt tractor and the smell alone will make alot of people want to give up. Great job.
