We have an 80 L2, unknown hours, big motor, hydro, rwa, rice machine. It has always ran hotter than our other L2s and the hydro has always been sluggish (won't pull in 4th, not even on the road if it's hot, sometimes not even 3rd if the bin is loaded) both problems have gotten worse since we've had it. Is the weak hydro making the motor run hot?

what kind of hyd fluis are you running? what's recommended? does the filter need changed? sound like there is a flow restriction somewhere on the hyd fluid or maybe the pump was changed sometime with a smaller pump? could be a lot of different things. if the pump is struggling, the engine will work harder and that will make it heat up too!

Shameless- everything is stock as far as I can tell. I have cleaned filters, run dexron atf, treat it like the rest of the fleet. I know the hydro needs dealt with, but was curious if that would solve my heating problems too. When I took the radiator to a shop, they said it was crammed full of stopleak and leaked like a seive when they cleaned it all out said it needed a core. I had another one off a donor combine and hoped that would fix it. I can tell the head has been off the motor and worked over, so I'm trying to figure out if the motor has a problem AND the hydro has a problem or if they are related. If they are both bad, I might not want to throw that much time and money at that older machine

If hydro is weak, it is bypassing oil which will heat the oil. The hot oil going through cooler will raise the engine temp. Sounds like you need the hydro rebuilt and done radiator prodded out. MACK
