how important is the tin oil splash gaurd that goes on top of the rocker arm, on the WD45 I am putting back together it is missing, I guess the real question is do I need it.\

Thanks in advance,
Denis

Are you sure it was even there. Not all the engines had it?

If your engine did have it I would think it would be fairly important otherwise they would not have wasted their time and money to build and install it.

For the engines they used it on they must have seen a lubrication problem and figured out a way to correct it.

Everything is done for a reason.

The purpose of the splash guard was to reduce oil being thrown out the breather/fill cap on top of the valve cover.   There was a service bullietin that said you could retro fit the guard to WD45s, I believe it came standard on D17s.  HTH

Okay so I may not of had one to begin with and if I have a problem with oil coming out the breather I could put one on later,
Thanks for all the help.
