Well I finally figured out the hard starting issue on my CA! The poppet spring was missing on the choke butterfly disc on the Marvel Schebler carb.
The guy I bought it from said it "always needed a shot of ether" to start. I just couldn't accept that. It turns out the poppet was flying wide open and basically cutting my choke in half. The Marvel manual I downloaded at this link really helped me (and dad) understand what was going on.
Man, you barely need to hit the starter now and this girl is purring! I realize this may be common sense to many of you, but it was an interesting challenge to me. I thought I would share the knowledge as so many of you have taught me through this forum. It's amazing that such an inexpensive part can make such a dramatic difference in performance.
Of course when I say cheap, I'm not counting the new cap, points, plugs, plug wires, condenser and complete tractor rewire I tried before I discovered this. LOL What can I say, that's what makes this hobby fun for me.

It's the small battles that we win that makes us keep going. That spring is something to keep in the back of my mind though.
