 Topic: Value of 82R Sickle Mower

Hello All, I hate asking for help on the value of a piece of equipment but of all the equipment I've bought so far I'm somewhat clueless as to the value of a 82R Sickle Mower. I'll add a picture to help. Looks to be in running shape although I didn't hook it up to anything. The sickle bar does go with it and is in good shape. Met a gentleman at our local antique show, talked to him about my love for Allis Chalmers equipment, now he has this mower he's looking to sell. I don't want to short him on the price and he doesn't want to ask to much. Not sure on the rarity, so price is a little hard to come up with. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

the last one I seen sell was $150.00, I am not sure why but people around our part of the country didn't like them, I have never used one myself.

I'll second that motion Tracy! I saw one sell at a consignment auction last December for $550. It had a snap-coupler hitch and looked like it was bought, tried out, and put in a shed. My pick-up was in the shop that day so I stayed out of the bidding. Not sure I would have bought it, but maybe.

I'd never buy one without trying it with a bar in the head. The twin wheel drive head is near impossible to find, if it is worn out...

its not a 80R3 this one is semi-mounted.

There is no sickle bar shown. Basically, try to replace that with the sickle sections rod ends and misc. That's not even $150 piece of equipment. Start adding up every part that is missing.$$$$$$$$

A new complete sickle bar will run about $200.00. Just got one this fall for my 80R.

Thank you all so so much for all the help/information! It's hard to see in the picture, the sickle is located on the ground next to the cement blocks that hold the front of the mower up. (green paint on picture) The sections look to be good for the most part, some of the guards are loose but none apart broken. My big concern is twin wheel drive being worn out (as DiyDave mentioned) and the serrated bushing that Eldon mentioned. If I'm correct, the bushing is what connects the sickle bar to the twin drive? (white paint) If that's the case, I'm not sure if that bushing is there with the mower....

I called 10 years ago to price them as I had 3 NOS in my stash I bought. The local dealer had them in stock at that time. If you call around you can probably find some.

I bought that one, it was an 80R that someone did a decent job converting to 3pt. It had good guards and hold- downs on it, knowing George, he made sure it was ready to cut hay. I'm anxious to try it out on my 175.

Looks like the bushing is there, it's held on to the knife head with a fine thread 5/8" bolt. Check out how sloppy the bushing is, in the bore of the twin wheel arm, a little slop goes a long way, when it comes to breaking drive heads offa sicklebars...
