d17 engine lube system question

i was told that d17 engines used different lubrication systems, depending on whether it was an early or later model. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two? Is the earlier one the same as a wd45 and use the same components as a wd 45? thanks, nick

The early one would be like the WD45 and similar to the other motors like B,C,CA... THe filter is a stuffed cotton bypass type. Of the total oil, 15% is bleed off thru the filter and back to sump. 85% of the oil goes thru the motor... normally splash lube.
 
The later tractors use an automotive type spin on filter. Might be PH8 like a FORD. The filter is under pressure and the bearings are pressureized, just like an automobile. You can see what you have by looking at the filter type.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

they aren't splash lube on the ones that aren't full flow still has pressureized oil to bearings just not all of it goes through filter
