Anyone driving a 2010 and newer ford fusion? Fellows check your tie rod ends and ball joints. My kid has a 2010, turned off I80 Monday, pulled into the high school parking lot and right outer tie rod end dropped off. No steering control. I thought it might be an issue with his car but prayer team just notified us our friend was killed today when his car did the same thing. Checked sons car further, upper ball joints are shot and the left inner tie rod is bad. His car has 125000 miles on it. Guys and gals jack those things up and check asap.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't own a Fusion but I will pass the word. Wonder if any other models are affected?

I recently received a recall on my 2016 Transit, says at 30,000 miles the driveshaft will fall off

Drive shafts are just extra weight till you come to an incline. Ignore it.

Thats BS. They don't even put grease fitting on em to give us a fighting chance.
I had to replace an oil pan on a 2003 Jeep that rusted out in between two layers of metal making it. Really? We forgot how to stamp out an oil pan? Edited by Les Royer - 22 Aug 2017 at 9:04pm |

While a 125,000 m. may seem to be short,, a lot depends on driver habits. Hitting potholes rocks and gravel and speed over rough roads. Not wanting to place blame on anyone, but since when has it become the responsibility of the car companies no matter who, to follow the owners around and do safety checks? It's every ones responsibility from the owner/driver to the mechanic to see to these things. To my way of thinking the mechanic is most at fault, but anymore we just run'em into the quick trip every so often, the grease monkey drops the oil as quick as they can and then set on their butts until another victim rolls in. My apologies to the sincere mechanics who do a good job in a dirty business. Keep up the good work. I for one thank you.

there was a certain year ferd F150''s that the tie rods would coma apart on when new, we did lots of accident reports from that happening. again...no way to grease them, but it still shouldn't happen on a new truck! I don't remember the year anymore. I do think there was a recall on them tho

Might have been around '87. On my '87 the front end would shake so bad you could barely hold it in the road at around 45 mph, tie rod ends mounted in rubber. Replaced them with solid greaseable units and no more problems.

We could start a pool to see if'n it makes it or not. You know Thad, You might have to move the ride further north, so I can make it. But then October, it gits a little chilly up here

My ride, '97 F150, dropped the tierod end on my wife when she 'borrowed' my truck to help her 'contractor' son...maybe 2001,2002. So I grabbed all the tools, new 'end' and fixed my truck while 'they' watched. yeah, that was fun.... Hmm... NOT a safety recall, not even a regular recall ! I'm thinking since the tierod ends don't ' 'pop off' on the highway and kill anyone, it wasn't a 'safety' issue..... Jay

I've had to repair tie rod ends on eighteen wheelers that fell off. Now that's a scary thought.

All machines have problems and need maintenance. GMC or Garage Man's Companion or as my Dad called them God's Mechanical Curse ! Dodge's used to rust on the Dealers lot! Toyota makes good vehicles and so does Suburu. As one neighbor told the Dodge Dealer several years ago they were asking to much money for a 49 Studebaker Pickup. He believed the new style Dodge pickups looked identical to a Studebaker! My 2002 GMC has had wheel bearings, transfer case, spring shackles, transmission seals. It does have 211,000 miles!

My 2000 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 had both front wheel bearing so lose they advised me not to drive it home from dealer when they did a safety recall for some other thing like tale gate or ? that was at 54,000 miles - remember they wanted $350 a side to replace them there .
