Time it with a light. Has to be timed at 3/4 throttle or more. Lay on your back and have a helper turn distributor up top. Time it to the "F" mark on the flywheel. It has to be straight down and line up with the little cast pointer in middle  of inspection hole. Smile

do you have a timing light (tool)?

assume you installed and timed ADVANCE at the FIRE mark ? ..... or just STATIC  before TDC ?

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I hope you did it with the engine at wide open throttle.

The 500 loader frame make it almost impossible to shine a timing light into the hole on my D-17.  Any good tips?

A clean mirror and a clean mark on the flywheel.

Thanks DrAllis, that is what I had envisioned.  Just was wondering what others had done.

On our D17, I pull the 2 bolts on the support by the engine (timing hole side only) and lift the bucket a bit and the bucket frame drops enough to get a clean shot at the timing hole. But its a Schwartz loader so may not work on yours.
