I believe the 185 has one tooth less on the pinion to bull gear.

The internal gears don't interchange. The 175-180-185 final drive gears are much wider than a D-17.

Working out the math, 14 tooth pinion to 76 tooth ring gear is 5.428571:1 close to 5.43. 13 tooth pinion to 76 tooth ring gear is 5.846154:1 close to 5.85.
