I have another question about this crawler. It has been sitting outside for about 2 years, the owner had parked it because he could not steer it due to a nasty hydraulic leak on one of the lines that control the steering clutches. Long story short we ended up brazeing the line and putting everything back together again. Still could not steer it, the brakes would stop it dead at idle. After a couple more tries we got the left hand clutch working and it'll turn left now. Plenty of oil and as far as we can tell there's oil getting to the clutch. There are two small access covers on the back behind the brakes which we removed. There is a lever asy that moves back and forth when the hand clutch is pulled back so I'm about 99% sure everything is working as it should except the clutch. The brakes are quite rusty and there was water in the bottom of the casting but we have not been able to figure out where it's comming from. Anyway we think the clutch mechanism may be rusted. Is there any way to get at it without pulling the entire top of the casting off? Any chance the clutch might free up if we worked the machine some? Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...Ron |

Ron, im no 7D expert, but on the bigger 21 and 31 tractors the oil was used to release the brakes. When parked, the brakes are spring loaded on. When you start the tractor and get pressure, the brakes are released. At low idle ther might not be enough pressure to release the brakes. On the bigger tractors, that ment there was crud in the steering filter or suction screen to the pump. Again, this is only an idea, i dont really know how the small Fiat machines worked brake wise.

Might try the shop forman at Sweeny Tractor in Burnsville MN as they sold the F/A machines after Borch Ingersol went out of business.
Also Northern Tractor in Osseo MN might have some information .
Unsure if all St Joseph Equipment outlets are F/A - New Holland dealers now
