 Topic: factory or after market cabs

mainly d series and 100 series , or even other brands of tractors from the late 50s into the 70s. what are the goods or bads of the differant brands ? now i know most of you would never have a cab on one off these tractors but i would give my left one to have run a tractor with a cab of any kind from october to june when i was growing up , even if it meant removing all the doors and windows in the summer

We had a couple of Year a Round cabs, they were a good solid cab, the heat worked well. None of ours had A/C. There were some local guys who had Hiniker cabs; I think those were good cabs as well.

I have a 200 with Year a Round and a 200 with a Hiniker cab. Both have windows removed and used strictly as canopies. I do like the YearRound better. More simple design, much easier access to batteries. When it gets cold, they pretty much get parked. Leon B MO

We had a Year A Round cab installed on our 185 in the fall, after purchasing the tractor in spring, 1975. Huge upgrade with the Heater in the winter and windows opened in the summer. Very solid construction, good sight lines, doors/windows worked well
Blowing yard/laneway snow in the winter was especially rewarding seeing the snow stop at the cab window and not on your face!
An excellent product for its time

I will agree, Hiniker and year around seemed the best, Cozy made some pretty good ones later on, not the first ones.

My 1974 200 has a Year-A-Round cab with Factory Air and I wouldn't trade it for one with an AC (LaPorte) cab. It's 50 yrs. old now and the AC still works great. Has been updated to 134 freon with no problems. Solid cab with ROPS protection.

My early one ninety gas has, I think a cozy cab. Can't remember for sure if that's the name. Not a bad cab, but I don't like the fact that the door opens what I would say is backwards. Hinges off the front. My XT has the factory installed stolper cab. I don't care much for the double doors on it.

I like the year-round cab only 190 whether you are hauling manure in winter doing spring work on a chilly windy day or fall field work. But come summer for hay work it is nice also. I take off the doors for better air in summer. It keeps you out of direct sun when mowing hay for hours and was nice when we bales with that tractor if the wind was blowing it didn't get quite as much dust and chaff on you. Would also be good if you round baled. Always figured too if a child rode along it was safer in a cab, yes I know it's dangerous, but they have to learn sometimes and it was safer then when I grew up clinging to the fender of a WD.

Cabs in the 1970's? I remember Cozy, Ansel, Hiniker, Full Vision, Year-A-Round. Probably more.

Had an aftermarket cab on my 6080 when I bought it. Hated it enough that I was ready to sell the tractor. Ditched the cab and put a canopy on 100x happier.

I think in the 70s also Excel and my D21 had a Cabilac, was tall so you could stand in it. Had a 806 IH with a Lundeen, sliding doors.
