Our F2 has been giving us trouble with the separator clutch. when disengaged it seems that the weight of the lever in the cab is holding pressure on one side of clutch disk. it has close to 1/8" free play when disengaged. I put a spring on it to hold it centered but when it was engaged it held the lever back and the tattle tale sensors didn't work. we put a new $250 clutch disk in last year and now it is warped and junk. we have the old one still in spec but just wondering if I'm missing something before i put it back in. anyone else had any experience with this?
thanks Derek in MO |

i dont know if there is a difference between F2 nd F .. My F was pretty simple to work on .. i had a service manual but i sent it to a dude in Ohio who hasnt found time to pay me yet . dont know bout the right measurement on freeplay .. on the F it was either in or out .. if out simply tighten it up .. screwdriver.. or chisel and hammer ... of course ..you cant have it too tight ....

What about the three-springs connected in a triangle on the clutch arms/linkage??? they are suppossed to keep it disengaged I thought..

you need to adjust the nut for the springs you don't have enough tensions springs to stop from going over centre

it stays disengaged and keeps the free play but it can slide in and out on the shaft. the weight of the lever keeps it slid to one side and drags on that side of the disk. all the free play is on the other. it's not a problem in the field but going down the road it gets hot. it seems like there should be something to keep the freeplay centered so that it does not touch the disk on either side.
thanks for your responses. Derek |

You have something out of whack.Disc just floats when released.Drive pins grooved forcing disc to one side?Even that shouldn't cause it. Start over checking everything. |

Just looked at mine awhile ago. When released it has about 1/8in clearance all the way around. You can flip flop the plate with your finger. No way it will drag hard enough to heat.Something you may want to check out is the bearing play on the big pulley.Mine had the bores wollowed where the race sets which would cock it out of alignment with mainshaft.Need to remove all belt tension to check it or use a BIG pry.
