OK what am I missing? The electric PTO clutch on my AGCO ALLIS 2020LC (Simplicity Legacy) lawn mower does not engage.
1. Replaced the switch and have power to the PTO Connector. A test light attached to the connector lights up when I activate the PTO switch. 2. Resized the air gap and checked Ohms on the clutch assy; talked to the service tech at Ogura (clutch Mfgr) and was advised that the clutch was defective since the Ohms was too high. 3 Bit the bullet and paid the $400 for a new clutch and I still have the same issue....the PTO clutch does not engage. The spindles are free and can turn the blades by hand. So now I have a new switch and a new clutch and have not fixed the problem! Edited by GregLawlerMinn - 13 Aug 2016 at 10:15am |

yup, bad or high resistance ground. I add a separate ground from EPTO mounting tab direct to battery, #14 wire is fine, only 4-5 amps being drawn.
Every E-PTO I've ever worked on and fixed draws about 4 amps. So old school math.. 12 volts / 4 amps is 3 ohms. Easy to check if off tractor, connect one lug to battery, other to ammeter then battery. Just be sure DVM is set to 10 AMP scale first . It'll make a nice, solid clunk 'pulling' in. If the coil of the EPTO reads 'infinite' or 1999 , then it's open( no connection). either a break in the coil or more likely the connection to the connector. Both are repairable,depending on skill or wallet size ! Jay |

Most electrical is either a open , direct short or a grounding problem - and ground is most likely problem . A test lite and a ohm meter - two basic tools - the scratching the hot wire is real old school and not a good test .
