Anyone parting out an ED-40 or know of bone yards that may have one. Considering an ED-40 for a winter project.
Anyone here have pics of theirs. Believe they had a Standard Ricardo Diesel engine.

As Dave has said, the ED40 uses a Standard Ricardo engine found in the early MF35's. Engine parts are available through the MF network in NZ. The balance of the tractor is modeled on the D14 so they should be a source of parts. There's parts tractors available in New Zealand if you want them but I don't fancy paying the shipping cost. Here's one that was for sale

And a ED40 that was displayed at Hutchinson in 1998. Owner unknown.

Guys: Always liked the styling on the ED-40. I wonder just how many parts were common with the D14 tractors. For that matter could a guy slip a 149 engine in place of the Standard?

Guys: Went to look over the ED 40. Can pick it up at a reasonable price.
Would like to purchase the following parts
1. Hydraulic Ram Housing Part Number 725789 2. Rear Drawbar Assembly 720870
I realize that this will be a long time search so will be posting here periodically. Canadian and England vendors are welcome to quote as I am not open to having the parts shipped if necessary.
Most of the Tin work looks OK, am assuming that the tin was vintage D14 tinwork. So that should be easy.
In close, I wonder if Allis Essendine every produce a SERVICE manual for the transmission?
Any thoughts appreciated. Hope to post some pics in week or so.

There are also enough ED40's here in Holland. At this time I don't know where there is one for parts but I will keep my eye's open iff you like.

GBACBFan - that is the battery cover, the battery protruded outside of the profile of the hood.

Hi GBACBFan: To tell you the truth, I am not sure from the pic, I think the protrusion was there for the life of the OEM production. I think the English guys would have a better idea. I will check my original Allis manuals on the ED 40's to see what the show.
My guess would be that someone decided to turn the battery tray long ways - say inline with the engine, did a nice job fabbing the hole so there was no protrusion. I like it better without the protrusion.

The Standard Ricardo engine was always hard to start so AC added glow plugs in each cylinder and therefore needed a larger battery. The battery was shifted to in front of the fuel tank and the compartment had to be enlarged, hence the enlarged box. This feature was only found on the later depthomatic models.

I'm unsure whether the cream paintwork was exclusive to New Zealand and Australia or not ? There is some totally orange ED40's in NZ too.
Has anybody seen the cream colour scheme on any of the Canadian or American ED40's ?

The model B is pre 1940 because of it's hand brakes. My guess would be a 1938 because it uses the wooden back rest. We have some model C's in NZ with that design of front rims.

Are not the spoke front wheels steel wheel cutoffs? That was my First Guess. The wood seat back with the fabricated supports does not a 37 B make. My guess is it's a 39.

Guys: On page 17 of the Dealers Parts Catalogue for the 23C and OE 138 Diesel Engine catalog there is reference to "ENGINES MANUFACTURER WORKSHOP MANUAL" - their publication number 505526 (2nd edition).
My question is do any of you have a copy of this manual or an original that you would sell.
Also on what side of the tractor should I be looking for the should I look for the lever to engage the auxilary reduction gears?

Orangeman: the D14 is completely different although it looks similar. Hood panels have muffler and breather holes on opposite sides. D14 had frame rails as well. Probably take a lot of work to bolt up a 149.

I'll admit I'm not the most knowledgeable about the ED40s but I can help with a few points: Orangeman & DSeries 4 I could be wrong, but I don't think theres a service manual specifically for the ED40 transmission. There will be one for the tractor as a whole and a specific manual for the engine. Yes the D14 looks similar but is very different to the ED40. However AC UK did copy the D14 transmission (Or so I am told). Hopefully any issues with an ED40 transmission can be researched and solved through a D14 manual? I do have a 2D cross section picture of the ED40 transmission. I'll quickly post a photo from my phone but if anyone wants a bigger clearer version I will scan it. OrangeKiwi The two tone paint scheme wasn't exclusive to Australia and New Zealand, it was changed to modernise the appearance of the ED40 towards the end of its production life as sales dropped. I could be wrong, but certainly the very last ED40's were painted in bright white and orange not cream. Perhaps the cream paint is just a sun faded white? I'm afraid I don't know of any ED40's worthy of restoration or parts this year near me.
