So I moved the mower from the old pin hitch draw bar WD to the snap coupler draw bar WD (with both hitches set all the way to the rear). The snap coupler one the PTO shield would hit the top of the hitch bracket, so I adjusted them apart...

Debating on whether or not I should raise the hitch one spot to compensate a bit to make it all run more level (which would drop the front end of the mower down a bit), but it mowed good for a solid hour this weekend.

Having an OPERATORS manual for both the tractor and mower would give specific adjustments to make to both for proper operation.
For PTO work most any tractor SHOULD have the drawbar adjusted to A.S.A.E. dimensions. That being 14" back from the end of the PTO shaft and between 13" to 17" from the ground. Any implement should be level when in operation so the hitch & PTO need to be adjusted accordingly.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

Take your torch and cut an inch or so off the top of the 2 vertical supports on the mower tongue, will give more clearance for the PTO Shield.

jaybmiller -- it did seem to work nicely

PaulB -- I do actually have both the tractor operator manual and one for the 160/172 series rotary mower. I know it talked about how to level the mower front to back (slight slope to the front) but I don't recall exact measurements. Will have to check on the 14" distance from the PTO shaft and the ground clearance.

Gary -- Haha.
