Went and looked at two AC tractors, a WD, and WC which both were tight. Guy wanted $800 which I thought was for both. Ended up being for each, as that's what he thought scrap price was, and he was quick to tell me that if they didn't sell, there were going to be scrapped. After telling him that he would be lucky if they were around 4000 lbs each there was no way they were going to fetch 800 for scrap. So I gave an offer of 400 each, which in my eye was still too high based on their condition but I figured worse case scenario, I could take all the good parts off of them, and scrap the rest and get maybe 250-300 for them, and at least the whole tractor wouldn't go to China. Well he took my offer and the WD came home yesterday. Told me it ran 8 years ago. Well after pulling the head off, there was so much rust inside the head, manifold and cylinders, there was no way that it ran 8 years ago, not even 18 years ago, especially as they have been sitting inside a barn for a long time. Oh well, at least there a few good parts on it, and I can save a bunch of them from going to China.

I was looking at a 1953 CA that belonged to a man that a friend of mine knew. I was told that the tractor was running a couple of months before but the bucket blew off the exhaust pipe, water had gotten into the engine and it had stuck and he didn't have time to fix it. I only gave him $150.00 for the tractor, loaded it and carried it home. The first thing I did was pull the distributor cap to find that the distributor shaft had rusted completely it two. This would make a man think that it had been a little more that a couple of months since it had run. I would have given the $150.00 if he had told me the tractor had not run in thirty years but I never did any more business with him.

It's sad but any tractor not in running condition(even puff,bang,puff,puff,bang,bang...) should be treated as SCRAP. I don't know about you guys but my xray eyes ain't too good anymore so I always treat 'ran fine when parked,complete restoration,bla,bla,bla' as a bad joke.Remember you're only buying what you can SEE and maybe some good stuff inside....maybe...

It wasn't too long ago that a mans word meant something. My 82 year old neighbor has been scammed twice in the last year by phone calls because he still believes that people tell the truth.

I bought a 37 WC that said hadn't been run for 10 yrs sitting outside . new gas , new btry, & ran like a dream in 10 minutes. Sometimes we get lucky when buying scrap.

I think the guy that I bought my 8070 from this last spring had quite well mastered the art of lying. I never been so burnt in my life. I do realize that a person should buy with the idea that what you see is what you get, but this plot is a whole thicker than that.

I have story after story that people have not been trueful with me in tractor dealings. I decided a long time ago that a lot of people have heard about horse trading from their grand or great grand parents and feel it falls in the same category. Even though the old stories might have been stretched a might. The tales these tractor traders can spin to make a buck. After a person has been taken in with one of these deal stories a person just needs to chalk it up to the cost of schooling in the school of hard knocks and be a little less trusting in the next deal. Me being a slow learner the best answer for me was to stop buying. If I was younger I most likely would still be chasing a deal toooo goood to be true which would probably turn out not to be true and still love the game after I removed the proverbial object from my body.

I bought a wd45 at auction over the internet told it was mostly restored and the pic showed that , but also ran good, well it had a cracked head,bad guides,also the block was cracked in 3 places, called the auctioneer, said he would get hold of seller and get back to me, guess what, haven't heard a word so i will never buy from Gerard auctions again.

I've been getting it from potential buyers I'am trying to sell my 86 F250 diesel first one was even going to let him make payments never showed up but called two days later with a story, next one definatly wanted it I even took it out of yard have waited two sundays in a row for him. well guess what it's back in yard. I thought $800 for a 4x4 extended cab diesel that runs was a deal but I guess not (body is rough). I don't want to sell the thing but Iam out of space and haven't drove it in a year. They have both been kids though.

Yes sir on selling also. I just sold a Allis B last night for the third time. Same ole same ole, I'll take it. I'll br back with the money in a week or two. Don't sell it to anyone else. It is a good way to get rid of door bell ringers cause after that they don't come back ever. Probly the same with this guy last night.
