I been thinkin on something that I know will help others here ,,,,,
Ya'll may remember a while back when one of our Yorkies got real sick so after waiting for an appointment I finally get her to the Vet. She had developed a partial blockage in outlet of her stomach, so they went in and fixed the blockage and Vet said they had to keep her there for a couple of days,,which was Ok but vet said she was in pain so they gave her something for the pain. The poor dog was actually Crying,,!! I asked what it was and she gave me a fancy word bout a block long and after MORE questions,,,she finally said it was just Extra strength Tylenol,,,,,Who Knew,,,,!!
Anyway, she has also had issues with both her hind legs and a "SPECIALIST" told me cost to operate would be $3500-4000 with a 50/50 chance she may still be the same,,,,,
Then my Son that lives in El Paso brought me some pills from Mexico that were for that purpose,,,and they helped to where she could run up the ramp I built for the sofa.
I have NO IDEA what those pills were and Jon says they cannot go to the border Now,,,as there is a HUGE ruckus going on so no pills!!!!  Most medications for animals are  same for animals as for humans except some are much stronger,,,,,
Now after that short story,,,,,WinkWink  Has anybody given your dogs or cats or even horses stuff like aspirin, tylenol,,,or even pepto ,,,,I mean,,,Why Not?????

Dogs should never be given chocolate.
Arsonic will kill a human, but an owl will just belch.
Cats are allergic to citrus.
I tried to follow the science, but it was not there. I then followed the money, and that’s where I found the science.

fentanyl, the drug people are killing themselves with, was first a horse tranquillizer. they can operate on the horse with it standing up and awake, but feeling no pain, so I'm told.

I am still confident of this;

I had a dog with a bad spine. Pressure on the spinal cord was causing loads of problems mid-spine to tail, especially paralysis. . Vet put her on steriods. A couple days later she was like new. However, their effectiveness eventually wore off.

Our local vet is great and often treats with “people medicine” when appropriate. And I am here to tell you, there ain’t one single solitary thing about pepto that appeals to a cat!

I had an old Vet once. Took the cat in and while I was waiting in the exam room.
He reached up on the shelf and popped a couple of pills for him self.

Seems I am taking glucosamine HCL for some joint pains and see they also use that for dogs .
Way back wife was on thyroid meds and then the collie we had then was said to be sufferings from a thyroid problem - from the vet the pills were $30 for 500 and wifes for the same dose were $10 for 30 after insurance - both made by same company and same strength

I would not do it on a production animal but the neighbors 4-h project got an ugly case of pneumonia that was not responding to routine treatment. A z pack worked a miracle in conjunction with an otc cough expectorant and a nebulizer that somehow disappeared from the hospital for a weekend

Joe,
Try using Alenza, produced by Bayer Animal Health & recently sold to Elanco Animal Health.
You can buy it off Amazon or your Vet might have it (will cost more from Vet).
It’s designed specifically for aging dogs. Pricey but it will help the joints and rear legs.

Well,,I just might HAVE thrown away $25 bucks,,,, I gave bella a 1/2 of one of those Pupgrade Chews Friday afternoon and another 1/2 Saturday noonish and another one Sunday noonish,,,,,that's when the trouble started,,,,she started throwing up Sunday afternoon that had a redish look to it but was not blood,,thank goodness,,,,,she did not eat Monday but was still throwing up a few times,,,The ejecta was now dark brownish. I stopped giving her the Pupgrade since Monday and she has not thrown up any more.  I gave her 1 teaspoon of Pepto a couple of hours ago and she laid down and fell asleep. I have no idea if that stuff was the cause of her stomach issues but I ain't giving her any more till I talk to them people in the morning,,,DANG,,what a day,,,,,

for dog pain baby aspirin work well...but just one at a time. one of our labs is on thyroid meds, 6mg of something that is to small for me to read. it comes from "vetsource" and is cheaper there than anywhere else. our vet tells all their customers to go thru that place as it's cheaper than even they can sell it for. as for giving pepto to critters, use the tablets, cats are easy to give pills to, just gotta know how to without getting bit or scratched. Listerine mouthwash is great for treating dry skin on critters. upset tummy? give them a cut up raw tater. rawhide chews are great for healthy teeth/gums, carrots are good for their eyes too. and i think the chocolate thing is a myth, we've had several dogs get into (by accident) chocolate things and one even ate a whole bag of M&M's, never slowed it down. same with grapes.

Dang,,don't really know what is going on with Bella,,,,,?  She has ALWAYS slept at the foot of my bed but last night she did not,,,,,Looked all over this morning and could not find her,,,even looked outside but she would of been barking to be let in soon as the sun goes down,,,finally found her a while ago ,,,she was under my son's bed and would not come out,,,OH Chit,,,finally coaxed her and she came out and did a big face licking and finally climbed  in my arms. Gave her her regular "Treat" and she was ready to go lay down on the bed. I don't know if all this BS is because of that dang PupGrade but am takinhg her to vet soon as I can get her in. Dang,,I'm worried bout my bed partner,,,,,

Dale I don't know that I would just leave the chocolate where the dogs have a good chance to get it. But you do have living proof one time will not kill them.

But doges being smarter than many that care for them, I would think they would learn to leave things like grapes and walnut alone if they where really bad for them. Very common for doges to eat grapes if they are around them growing on the vine .I have also seen doges crack English walnuts in their mouth and just eat the meats out of them. Both a bit expensive for dog treats if your not growing them.

We don’t give them the same medications because we are different, and our pet’s bodies work in a different ways. It’s the same reason why you cannot give your dog chocolate – it will just kill the dog.  I started to look closer into it when I read this article https://www.veterinaryschoolsu.com/grooming/pros-and-cons/ and planned to become a groomer. You cannot treat animals like humans because they are not. Some antibiotics like penicillin might be used on animals, too, but it still has to be modified.  Some dogs can eat chocolate, but it does not mean that the others can, and it does not mean that it does not harm them.

Ray...we gots a walnut tree in our front yard, after them walnuts drop and the exterior casing wears off, or gets taken off by the squirrels, all my dogs thru the years sit out there and chew up them things. i keep telling them that they'll hurt coming out the other end, but they don't listen! lol...had a collie that would come in every night while i was at the puter and get her one (1) malted milk ball. yeah...she died....of old age. have given pepto to the dogs and other animals when needed. tablets work fine most of the time...but it's about easier to splash some into their mouths. oh...and the M&M's was left out by the old lady....ooooops....i mean the loving wife! not me! we are giving "CARPROFEN" to my one Lab with hip problems, she runs again now with the other dogs. and just a final note....NEVER put walnut wood shavings in your horse stalls...THAT will kill the horse!

Well there is a big difference between English walnuts and Black walnuts. The dogs where eating English walnuts the shell is much softer. They spit most of the shell out. Also the meat is bigger in the English walnuts. English walnuts don't like sub zero temps so I am guessing you have Black walnuts. I think with more water your Black walnuts might have a bigger meat than we get. I don't know if the shells on yours are softer, but a dog would be hard pressed to crack the ones here.

yeah...our walnuts are the black walnuts, the shells are really hard, when the dogs chew them, it sounds like they are chewing rocks! it takes a bit of muscle to crack open a walnut shell here! i could never figger out how anyone can get the meats out whole, we always hafta dig them out even when the shell is cracked open in halves. and we always break them. PfffffT!
