re: My Queston is when my cruse is on and I'M going up a hill it act like it is kiting in pasting gear. ?/ depending on the grade of the hill, all trannys will downshift from OD(overdrive) to next lower gear. BTW...when hauling a trailer you should not use Overdrive

been several years ago, I was driving into a strong headwind and had the transmission downshift... so it can happen.

very common for downshifts when going up a hill.... especially with the new, smaller 4 and 6 cylinder motors... you loose horse power and trans has to downshift to get back on the HP curve to climb the hill..... perfectly normal..

Mr P take them to a reputable mechanic that knows dodge tranny's. Internal pressures can be adjusted. Its pretty simple to do with the right scanner. The boys at the car dealership checked every dodge with an automatic we took in on trade. We just had moms 1988 Dakota done last week.

I have 262K on the original automatic in my 1996 Dodge one ton pickup w/V10 engine. I change fluid and filter the first week of every other October and have since new. Never has been a problem and there is well over 150K of those miles pulling with the truck pretty heavy. It is a 46RE series and I'm not real hard on the throttle pedal and have been pretty much the only driver since new.
