Hi Guys, My sister has this Dodge Caravan (I forgot to ask her
what year) and she went to the store and when she got back home, she
found the following where she was parked. She's worried and I don't
blame her. She lives near Chicago and is wondering about driving it
now, without knowing how important this piece is. She needs help
guys!! Thanks!

No, it wasn't already laying there, it is in their driveway. I thought about a CV boot, but then it wouldn't move would it?

yeah it will, not for long cuz it'll rust up. the boot just keeps things clean and greased up inside it. upon further looking, i think it;s one of them shock rubber bumpers that go between the body and front/rear end? works kinda like a plyable spacer. have her take it to a garage and hoist it up, take the piece with her, there should be another one under there somewhere.

As shameless sez, it looks like a rubber bumper between the frame and axle. Do they own a ford pickup? Of the 6 ford pickups I have owned most of them were missing. If that is what it is, I never found a problem driving without them.

A CV boot would never come off that cleanly. It would have to be shredded just to come off the CV joint. Kind of hard to really determine scale from picture but looks way too small to be a CV boot too. I would have to agree with Shameless that it is a rubber bumper of some sort. My best guess would be a rubber suspension bumper fastened to the underbody to stop the rear axle from traveling high enough to hit the steel underbody pan of the vehicle. If that is what it is, there should have been 2 of them initially- 1 above each side of the rear axle. Never had Dodges but on both the Mercury minivan we had before and the Chevy minivan we have now, 1 side fell off long before the van itself gave up. They were not this same shape but that is still my best guess. Doesn't affect ride or dependability as long as you're not planning any off-roading adventures with said minivan.

gee, if we all agree with 'he-who-shall-not-be-named' ,will he stop using his machine for a few days ??? I agree, some kind of bumper between frame and axle. Now IF there wasn't 'pretty' next door, I'd go look under the Caravan that's over there. I may anyway,seeing howe th contractor's coming for 'bird' dindin later....

My guess as well,,,,and the fact of the matter,,,whatever it was attached to,,is now just hanging and NOT connected what it was suppossed to be,,,!!! Best get the vehicle checked out by a mechanic before any long travels.

It's a bump stop between the axle or control arms and frame. Not a big issue unless you drive like a 16 year old first time out alone. Looks like it rotted off to me. Most do.

If it was a cv cover there should be a hole in the other end because the shaft would have to go through it
