Saw Jacob's post re his new C named Frank. Anybody else out there name their tractors? We have Big Boy (D17D), Little Boy (5030), Matilda (1935 WC, unstyled), D14, (D14 with loader), and 185 (185, duh). I'm sure others like their girls enough to name them.

We seem to call the CA the "Little Allis." The other AC that I have came with my property and was called "Sweet Allis" by the previous owners. I call it "worn out." Just bought a WD that hasn't been delivered yet. No name for it.

Have you ever read any of Roger Welsch's books? In one of the books (I don't remember which), he writes about naming the tractors.
Also, in his rules, he mentions that you should name your tractors:
RULE #3. For much the same reason, don't number your tractors #1, #2, #3. Give them names. You'd be surprised how much less trouble you will have, if you talk about "Steel Wheels" or "Sweet Allis" rather than "Allis Chalmers WC #14." Edited by Goose - 13 Nov 2009 at 1:59pm |

I refer to most of them by either the name of the fellow I bought it from, or where it came from, Graff tractor, Maryland tractor, Indiana tractor, etc. One WD has the dubious name of Roger. For most of one summer, it would start right up and run, maybe for hours, maybe for minuets, then inexplicitly quite, defying every attempt to resolve the problem. At the time there was an advertisement on TV where an elderly lady was trying to teach a chimpanzee the proper way to eat spaghetti. Of course, the chimp would do all sorts of stupid stuff, and the lady would explain in exasperation, "Roger, your pushing my buttons!" So the WD was named Roger

Grandpa's is Ceece (Cecil), Nellie will be my other keeper(grandma).
When my stepson was starting to drive I got into Camaros, we had to name them. We could not say the "Z"(3 of them), We could not say red one, black one, etc. We had "Big Z"(blk95), Lil "Z"(blk84), Big Red(86Z), Lil Red(84), Silver, The "turd"(teal92, the dog of the bunch, but immaculate) |
