i have pulled a 21' ih 470 tandem disk with mine, but was on flat ground and it was a little much for it.

Depending on the kind of ground you have, I would not want to go much bigger than a 15ft. We pull a 13ft with a D-19 it handles it just fine and will pull through a wet spot great. I pull a 27ft DA 2500 with my 7060 and 7080, and (well havent yet) cant stop them. I used to pull a 20ft 2300 AC with them and could run with it. Both are running 210hp and have a little more weight than your 180.

We have an ajustable 12' JD finishing disk. When set hard, and pulling a cultipacker behind it, our 185 struggles some, more so with traction than hp. We use our 8010 instead. Our 185 has almost new Firestone deep tread radials, 18.4 X 30, 2 sets of weights, and the tires are filled with fluid. We have heavy clay soil here and are relatively flat with small hills in Maryland. I would say you would have no problem pulling a lighterweight 12' to 16' without a cultipacker.

What type of disk? heavy, light, brand, width, and where? flat, terraced or no terraces, contour? Type of soil?

Like others have said, "it depends". My 180 pulls a medium/light pull type 10' JD disc like it's not even there. However, a heavy 5' Burch offset is all the tractor wants, sometimes more than it wants in heavy soil or up a bit of a grade.
I think a conventional, medium weight 12' disc would match real well with a 180, and wouldn't mind finding one myself.

I pull a 11 foot IH 37 finishing disk (7 inch spacings with 18 blades) with ease with my 180, usually in high 3rd in applications like discing under corn stalks. I also have a 12 foot Allis KT tandem disc. It is a very heavy disc with 9 inch spacings and is a primary tillage disc. I could not drop it all the way in the ground with my 180 in high 2nd in cornstalks. That was on the middle "cut" setting and new 18.4X30 rears. I've since backed it off to the "light" cut setting but didn't get a chance to try it again. Same disc on a D19 (more HP, bigger 34" tires) in plowed ground was a struggle for it. I agree a medium 12 foot finishing disc would be ideal for both cornstalks & plowed ground would be a good match for a 180.
Shameless - were you thinking about a 190(XT) when you said 21' IH 470? I can't imagine any case where a 180 would pull that in any kind of soil. I'd think that'd be too much disc for a 190XT unless it was dualled and weighted down. Mike
