IH tried that, didn't they?
Seems it would be good for pulling a combine or doing haying work, but not much else.

Neighbors bought 2 of those little IH gas hydro tractors.Didn't have them long before trading for gear diesels.Said they were GAS HOGS!!!.Yup,hydrostatic is good for for variable speed and reversing but not hard field work. Pumping oil creates lotsa heat which is wasted energy.

Most larger tractors with hydrostatic drive still use the transmission.
You need a variable displacement pup to take advantage of the hydraulic drive. Use a second pump on the back of the variable pump for the PTO

Friend of mine had a 656 gas hydro. It was a great tractor on a disc mower but as previously stated you need a fuel truck in the field.
