    Posted: 06 Sep 2017 at 2:49pm
Hello group. A question on a decal for my HD16.

I have sourced and found all the decals for my HD16DC when I am done with the repaint and repairs. One decal I cannot identify but I have the shape of it on my unit.

On each battery box, under the oval decal for HD 16, there is a decal shaped almost like a bow tie. At first I thought it was a contractor logo but when I started looking at original artwork and pics of a 16, it is on those pics as well but not good enough to make out.

Anyone know what this decal was? I can't blow up the pic enough to see what it is. Might be mention of the torque convertor. Just guessing. I thought one of the experts on this site would know.

Thank you in advance.

I'll tell you but I would have to kill ya. hahahaha.

A company Williams Equipment in Michigan. They bought out the old Allis dealership and took over most of the old parts inventory. I know them there they had various decals but were able to come up with the Allis brand in 3 sizes. To fit the Hood on both side, the back of the fuel tank and the battery cases. They called a customer they have, would not give me the name as I would buy direct but thats OK, this guy has 3 of the oval HD16 decals. They measure 5"x12". One for each battery case and one under the the Allis Triangle logo on the back of the fuel tank. Then if the pic I have is correct, the Big Allis Chalmers goes under the oval decal.

Not sure what the logo is on both battery boxes is that sits under the HD16 oval decal though.

Thank you DYIDave.

I have the shape of it on my 16 but can't tell what it says. On old dealers pics it shows up but can't blow it up enough to read it

There were 2 options for transmissions in these, could be something to do with that.

Bingo! I could just make out the word torque and assumed it was a torque converter designation. Could you take a photo of one of yours and send to me via cell and I will share with the forum. Talk about digging, I found a site that sells accurate scale models of AC Dozers and on one of their model HD 20's they show this decal on it. I was going to message the company as to a pic of the logo so I could duplicate. Crazy huh!

Holy Guacamole!! You nailed it.

Another company I am using has all the archives on AC and will make to order complete sets of decals if you send them model, year and serial #. Called Quip-Cal Inc. They have a complete set of new decals for my HD16DC. I am going to send them this pic to see if they have or can duplicate. Thank you very much Steve.

I bought a HD11EP IN 1995 and the decals were in very good original condition , I took the side cover of the battery box in and had some new ones made these are the new ones I measured the exact location that were placed from new . the 11 has been sitting in my shed since then and i have been rebuilding it on and off over the years the decals i have will prob be no good as been sitting in a cupboard so i hope to get some more made up !

Some advice for you don't pull your machine apart to much I had mine down to the bare chassis rails and have replaced every nut bolt washer bearing hose and all moving parts I don't know how much money or time i have spent prob around $40,000 so far !

Good advise Steve. I am not going to do that type of rebuild. I want her to be mechanically sound and then just cleaned up and painted. I am not a collector but rather a huge fan of heavy metal. Keeping my overall budget down to a couple thousand bucks. That said I can see how fast it adds up. Decals $100, paint $300, new seat $100, batteries and cables $300, and the list grows. Love it though and will spread it out over a couple of years. I think my girl will be more of a "rat" dozer. Lolol

Good catch. Mine is a DC and you are correct not a power shift. The remains of the decal is on my unit however. Strange.

Thank you Rick.

Was there a logo like this one that said Torque Converter but did NOT say Power Shift? My 16 is a model DC and does not have power shift. Curious.

What I did was to send an email to them with my model, year and serial #.

They assigned someone. My person is Mike. They make these to order so not pulling from inventory. When I told them I needed a set for my 1961 HD16DC he sent me what they show as a set. It was all there including the HD16 football logo. Then I sent them the Torque Converter logo and they had that as well. Let me know how I can help Steve.

This is a great read. Thanks everyone for sharing your knowledge. I have a 1965 HD16 torque converter on my "to fix" list. I looked at its decals or probably better put, where decals are missing. Would these "torque converter" decals have been on it as well?
