Can someone tell me if a smaller outer shim can be used in place of a larger shim at position 2 center plate? Thanks Bill

Long shims should always be used in the center......you can do what you want, but there is a reason for the long shims.

The long shims support the center pressure plate backs and prevent dishing or warping, I have seen two short shims inserted in place of the center long shim with the tabs hung on each bolt and the rest sticking inwards, as I guess the repairer did not have access to a long one. Anyway I would get the correct shims - and be darn sure the shim stack totals what the repair manual states. |
