I have a question about valve adjustment on my D19 diesel. When I built the engine i needed a cam and could only get a cam for a gas engine but was told it would work and it has worked just fine. the tractor made 65 hp on a dyno, now 16 years later I want to adjust the valves don't remember what I set them at when i built the engine. should I go with valve lash for a gas or diesel cam. I think I did .015 intake .020 exhaust before. I have seen different specs depending on what manual you have, some say .015 for both intake and exhaust.

Whatever you decide to set them at, as long as you have "some" clearance both hot and cold then you should be fine. To a large degree having excess clearance will just make things noisier well before you start losing any appreciable power, and obviously tight valves are quieter but lead to burned valves so my preference is a noisy top end over risking damage when I can't get a definite spec (or have some kind of hybrid engine as yours)
I'd go for .015/.020 in/ex and check both hot and cold that nothing closes up too much

As per the Service book: Gas intake and exhaust COLD .017" and .022". Diesel intake and exhaust COLD .019" and .019".
