Hello all,

I have a misfire on my D19D within about 1000 to 1500 RPM. Runs great and lower RPMs and lots of power at high RPM. The pump and injectors were rebuilt about 7 years ago but I’ve had this timing issue since install. The tractor has a a loader and only really sees service in the winter when it snows. It’s never really been that big of an issue before however I lm doing a bunch of maintenance on it and would like to clear it up. Doesn’t seem like timing is off that much but it’s odd to me the miss is in the midrange of the powerband? I have a service manual but any and all suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. As you describe it, seems as tho the fuel injection pump timing may be late. Could also be low on engine compression pressure, not what you want to hear. Advancing the pumps static timing will make it start even harder than it does now. I suppose you could change the inj pumps advance setting, by screwing IN the adjustment screw 2 or 3 turns and see what effect that has. Be absolutely sure to count how many turns you change things so you can go back to where you were if that doesn't work out. Changing static timing 2 degrees could also be tried. Move the pumps top in towards the block to advance.

Make sure the return and inlet systems are free of debris. A plugged return circuit from when the pump failed a few years ago can still cause issues with the rebuilt pump. Any return line restriction can slow down the advance mechanism in the pump. If it was professionally rebuilt, it should be set right, but if it was a backyard "rebuild" then you may have to adjust the trimmer screw to get the advance curve right. Could be worn transfer pump causing it too. So many variables.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I’m sure the compression is low, it needs some time for the coolant to heat up in the winter. Next couple weeks are busy with work and training but I will report back once I dig into it.

Thank you Dr Allis and everyone else who helped. Finally found time today to make some adjustments. I tried the smoke screw first with one complete turn. Not much change. Moved the static timing inbound approximately 1/4 of an inch and everything is running much better. Clearly it wasn’t enough when I originally installed the pump. I remember having a hell of time trying to adjust the pump during install, but all is good now. Thank you all!

Have you checked the turbo and the powers cells for carbon buildup? That was the problem on my D19.

energy cell....lanova fuel system....injector squirts into cell and it burns back out into cylinder. Increasing fuel delivery does little for power increase...mostly just more smoke.

I think they were sorta efficient on fuel but no first hand knowledge.

I will say it is a fuel efficient tractor. I did a lot of sickle mowing last year with it and was impressed with fuel consumption.
