i have had both and i don't think there is any difference other than the turbo.do you still; have the wc i sold you2 or 3 years ago?

yes, I do. it has been joined by a 1935 U, 1950 WD, 1954 WD45, and I "sold "Dads 1967 190XT diesel to my youngest son. Not enough money to play with all of them. < id="gwProxy" ="">< ="ifofjsCall==''jsCall;elsesetTimeout'jsCall',500;" id="jsProxy" ="">

I always thought the D19TD started harder because they had lower compression due to the turbo.....D17 15.7:1, early D19 14:1, late D19 15:1

I think the pump is different too, and maybe the injectors. Also I think the D19's all have block mounted water pumps.

I may be wrong but I believe blocks are same but heads are different , friend once tried to repair 19 with a 17 engine and when he put it back together I wouldn't run right with turbo untill he put 19 head back on the 17 block.

There were 4, if I remember correctly, cam choices for the D262 engine. The early 262 in my D17 had the same cam as used in the wd45 diesel. This was according to Valu-Bilt where I got my reground cam.
I'm pretty sure all D19's had the water pump on the block. I did notice that my original block did not have the hole for the turbo drain back. That could be only on the block mounted water pump blocks though...

My repair book shows the earliest D-19 had head mounted pumps and differant cams ,pistons,valves. Also series III and up had block mounted water pumps too. I was always told that the block mounted pumps cooled better.

Brian-Question about what I am doing on my D19 D262 Diesel Engine. I am using a reground D17 D262 cam (1958 vintage) in my D262T. The blasted parts book shows both cams as being identical part numbers...74516085.

You can not use a early cam in a latter 262 unless you change pistons because they are higher lifted cams and the valves will hit the piston. That is why earlier pistons have a recess on them. Also the valves are slightly smaller too on the later 262 and 262T. This is stated in the D-19 repair manual.

Brian, you cannot use a WD45 cam in a D17 or D19 because the rods will hit the cam. There has to be flats on the cam where the rod passes on it's way around
