Proud new D17 owner. I've learned a bunch reading old posts but am stumped by this spring.

What exactly does it do and where do I find a new one?

Counterbalance spring to help hold the throttle at the wide open position.  AGCO may or may not have them anymore.

Agco part number 70229130 and it does not appear to be available.

Use a piece of wire and make a new hook. In other words, "Obama" rig it.
