I found out why the guage did not work!! There was no float left on the rod after 45 years in gasoline!! LOL    What will best survive  being used as a float? Will a regular rubber stop hold up being in gasoline all the time?? What about a brass carb float?? Thanks, Ryan

I found a cork at a Hobby Store, cut it to size, sealed it with Sealsall.  Been working for 3yrs..   Mine wasn't missing, so had a pattern to make one .

Someone bought a carb float from O Reillys and used that.  I picked one up last week, but haven't gotten the gas gauge back together to put it back in.   Here is a link to the old post:

Thanks for the link Chuck! I got on Oreillys website and I ordered one. It looks like it would work based on the photos, at least better than a plain skinny rod!! Thanks, Ryan

Believe I bought some at Home Depot. I tried the cork-and-SealsAll route - gauge sorta works in that it moves up/down as gas sloshes around in the tank, but mostly it reads "E". Maybe I need to try again! Looked on the O'Reilly site - couldn't find the carb float part # mentioned above. Maybe it's time to quit for the day!!

Anybody got any size dimensions on the float? I have a source for an"unsinkable" float made of some "space age" material.  About $5  sealed.
