What is the correct rear tire size? Also how much does a pair of spin out rims and centers cost, thanks Tom.

If you want a man to be a successful farmer, give him a Allis Chalmers tractor. If you want him to be a successful mechanic, give him a John Deere

Series 2 tractors usually had 14.9 x 26 spin outs........Series 1's were 13.6 x 26 spin outs.

What Dr allis said is right. If you are looking for some cheap rollers, go to a combine junkyard, lots of 'em used 14.9X26 rims and tires, non adjustable rims, though. If you go wider than 14.9, you might have backspacing problems...

Thanks for the info. I didn't really know what was correct only what was on the two tractors I had bought to build one. They are pretty hard to come by in this area.

14.9 x 26 combine combo fits on my D-14 fine, so does 13.6 x 26 though it looks odd to have spin out and combine on the same tractor.

The extra power and bigger rear tire on the D-15 series 2 was another attempt to come up with a tractor to really replace the WD-45 gas.

Dr Allis, Your info brings up a question I have always had. Why did Allis go to the 26" tires and wheels when they already had all the stuff to use 28" tires and wheels from the Wd's & WD-45's ? It couldn't have saved very many dollars with only 2" smaller, and now we see that it is hard just to find this size. Just think how many wheels and tires are on WD's and & WD-45's setting around we could have used or could ?

They likely used the 26" wheel to keep the height (rolling radius) lower and still have more rubber on the ground. Likely had something to do with torque. Talk about 26" combine wheels, I bought a Gleaner E at an auction with a great pair of power shift spin outs but worn out rubber. The combine rims and tires were on the D-15 ll that he was keeping.
Needed the rims for a D-15 project. Drove it on the trailer for $275 and still had a $500 engine.

The tractor division replaced the CA with the D-14. They also replaced the WD-45 with the D-17. These were the first two "D" series tractors in 1957. If you had a CA, the D-14 probably made sense. If you had a WD-45, the D-17 made sense. If you didn't need anything bigger than a WD or WD-45, there was nothing. The early D-15's probably did replace the WD, but surely not the WD-45. Likewise the D-15 series 2 came closer to the WD-45, but in my books, not quite yet. All the 45's I knew had the 14.9 x 28 tires and the D-15 series 2 only had 14.9 x 26's !!
