set the crank in the 15 II block today.  End play was 2 to 3 thou.  That is tight according to the manual but she spins freely.  I think I am good to go with that.
 
what do you all think?

When the motor gets hot the parts expand and the clearance gets smaller. I would go with what the book says. What is the clearance supposed to be?

I sure wouldn't worry about it....use 5W-20 or 5W-30 for break-in oil and you'll be fine if it truly has .002" to .003" which is enough room for oil to squirt thru.
