i have a 1957 d14 and when i have the tractor wide open the throttle lever will move back off wide open throttle. in order to keep the tractor at wide open throttle i must keep my hand on the throttle lever next to the steering wheel. is there a fix for this because it is hard to operate the tractor only with one hand

thanks chris

I believe there is a spring loaded mechanism with two pads that clamp onto a plate - similar to a disc brake setup, under the side shield below the gas tank. You will see what I mean when you get under there. At least the D17's have one, I imagine the D14's have the same thing. You need to tighten the little pads so the throttle lever stays where you put it.

Make sure that the "compensator spring" is intact.  It's #11 as shown in this view from the parts book.  From the parts book diagram it is hard to see how it is hooked.  Mine was missing altogether and I had the same symptoms that yours has.  I finally saw one on a friend's D15 and was able to buy one from AGCO for my D14.

You can also check the linkage all the way up to the gov to be sure there isn't any binding.  If it is clear, you may need to adjust Rod #8 in the clamp #10.  It may be adjusted out too far and causing your problem.  When I put mine back together, I needed to play with that a little.

One end of the spring hooks in a slot on the steering support weldment, and the other end hooks over Item #10 (I think)  It helps to see one on another tractor so you can understand how it fits.
