I have this 1959 D10 Ser.#1682, It was my Dads First of two D10's I recently acquired, This Tractor runs BUT it needs some work. I have a question concerning the hydraulics. when the tractor is running motor oil backs up in the hydraulic reservoir  and overflows out of it! Any Help on understanding what's happening here? and i Know I need a manual on this ol tractor. Look forward to Helping get it back in good working Order.

Does this tractor have power steering?
Are you sure its engine oil coming out of the hydraulic reservoir?

No power steering, The motor and Hydraulic oil are identical in color and smell and feel the same now. also the engine oil is way low and the hydro. reservoir is way over full- rams extended. maybe seal is gone on pump-and pulling oil where gear gets lubricated? I have to get a shop manual for sum research I know im going to b needing parts to.                                                                                                                             MAC

So i took the Hydraulic pump off today to find allot   of slope in the gear driven shaft, (make note of this) mixed oil here also in gear housing, to witch  allowed oil to pass by from engine into the pump, So the obvious is true just seems hard to believe that the amount of oil coming from the out the top of hydro tank was possible!Guess the old girl just worn out!! any way I'm flushing the system and hope to put a new pump on! witch pump do I need? Question! Ill Figure that one out also?.Wink Still Got to get that shop manual if im gona work on these old Ass Tangerines. Gotta Love Em.

is your hydraulic pump mounted on your engine?

The series I and II tractors have the hydraulic pumps on the rear axle housing.

Yes. a better description of where the pump is mounted and how it is driven would help a lot... Normally the pump is mounted in the BACK and driven off the transmission / pto area... If you have a loader it is mounted on the FRONT under the radiator and is external shaft driven from the crankshaft....... Neither system has much in common with the motor.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

The "Lift Lower"  System Has an engine pump mounted below the governor/distributer using the same pump and reservoir as a Power Steering system, with the pump driven by the timing gears. This seems to be the system the OP has.  A good hydraulic shop should be able to rebuild his pump. If that isn't possible any P/S pump from a D10 to a D15 including the Industrial version equivalents will be a direct bolt in replacement.  
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
