   Does anyone have the correct parts number for the points and condenser for a D10-12 tractor that Napa would sell? Thanks, Tracy

	We carry a good set of points/condenser if interested Tracy. Been hearing some talk from some of our customers about the Napa/Echlin line of tune up parts that aren't as good as they used to be. Some fellers been having problems. Not sure how accurate that is. Just from what our customer's tell us. Take it for what is worth I guess. I've been an SMP dealer since 1970 so I don't have the Napa numbers right at hand, but I can interchange for ya from our P/N's if you want to try em'. Your call there..... HTH Steve@B&B

	Somewhat related: My understanding of why the Napa (and other) points are getting a bad rap lately is because points manufacturers started putting a thicker anti-oxide coating on the contact points a few years ago. Because they don't sell many, they often sit in the central storage warehouses for a while before being ordered by the individual branches, so the thicker coating prevents corrosion when in storage. The old dollar bill or paper bag trick is no longer enough to get the coating off. That's what I've heard, I'm not sure how much truth there is in that being the reason behind it. But I know for sure that the coating is different: Several sets of points I've bought in the last couple of years have needed more aggressive cleaning to get them to work at all. It used to be that one or two swipes with a brown paper bag or dollar bill between the points would clean them up (you don't want to use new bills as the ink comes off too easily). These days I find I need to give them a very light stroke with a fine points file to get new points to work at all. I know you're not supposed to use points files as they can take off the hardened chrome layer. But as long as it's a gentle stroke and a non-aggressive, fine file, it seems to be ok. I haven't had any problems with them pitting or burning up. Don't think I've ever had to replace any set of points I've installed in the last decade or so actually. 	I haven't had as much a problem with points as I have with condensers. In the old days, condensers would be one of the last things to worry about failing, now they are the first, for me anyway. The NAPA ones have been better than most, but I've still had some fail, in that if the engine starts to sound a bit rough or raggety, changing the condenser would fix it. Steve, which ones do you carry that are higher quality?

	The Blue Streak line from SMP. Been a dealer for SMP since 1970. Usually a little spritz of Brakekleen or TV tuner cleaner will clean the oxidation off the contacts. Should be good ta' go after that..... Steve@B&B
