So I am almost ready to start putting some Persian orange 1 to make my 57' D17 correct for the era. I have been researching pictures to make sure I am as accurate as possible. There are three colors that I am not sure on. The silver used for the air cleaner, black for the starter and generator and silver for the rims. I realize the rims were originally galvanized but what would be close? I have 95% of everything primed and still a few more details to work out. I checked the knowledge base for paint codes and don't see those listed. Any ideas or recommendations?

I've never sprayed it myself, but someone on here posted that Ford Argent Silver is what they use.

I've been using rust-oleum aluminum on all my rims. Looks really good in my opinion.

I meant to say Rustoleum aluminum "color" also.... i have sprayed it and brushed it on. I like spray results better....If you sand blast and prime before application your results will be good.. like all paint jobs, preperation will determine end result more than the paint you use. I like light gray primer because it gives a lighter finish color than dark primers......

I haven't been able to sandblast anything (no access to a sand blaster) but have been using wire wheels and 3M paint and rust remover wheels. It has been more time consuming but I feel the results are just as good if not better. I have been Case gray primer on everything and from the look of the finish on the primer I think the final paint will look fantastic.

Aluminum colored paint works well for the wheels and air cleaner. For the starter and generator, I use gloss black - might be too shiny for some, so a semi gloss would also be good.

I used Rustoleum cold galvanize spray on my D14 rims. Sorta dark and a flat finish but it looks fine to me. I didn't restore it, I just repaint anything I have to repair or replace.

I can get my hands on case silver or aluminum. Either would look good. What are your thoughts on either color? I think the aluminum would be slightly brighter. Maybe look closer to galvanized steel?
