All so how should I get ride of heat in the head? Should I port/Polish the head& manifold? All so what about shaving the top of the pistons? any help would be great full. |

If it is in the back between the head and the block, the gasket is thin in that spot. If it is just seeping, try cleaning out the crack real good and try to force some sealant or LB Weld in between the block and head. It will stay for a while. It might buy you some time, but it is a weak spot in the gasket.

My D17D seeps a little coolant in the back too. If it's not much, I don't think I would take it apart. I've heard stories of people having trouble getting the head gasket to hold. My Oliver seeped a little after I overhauled it too. All of the Oliver guru's said to put stop leak in it and not worry about it.
Several years ago when I was at the Orange show in Hutchinson there was a guy with a WD45D that was pulling 65hp on the dyno. I asked him what he did and he said that he had a 262 crank in the 230 block, a custom reground cam, and ported intake and exhaust. He told me the biggest gains came from opening up the manifolds and head. He claimed the originals were very poor flowing and he had built up the runners of the manifolds with brazing rod to make it possible to enlarge the runners. I don't think I would recommend shaving anything off the pistons. The compression ratio on the old A-C diesels is on the low side for efficient diesel operation. |
