Does anyone know if I can get an electronic ignition kit for a positive ground sytem? I ordered a kit for my D 17 from NAPA, and the instructions say that it is for a 12 volt, negative ground system, and my 17 is positive ground. Thanks for any help,  Darrel

If you're set on having the electronic system I would consider changing your traxctor to a Neg ground system; I can't imagine it would be too big a problem.

Just swap the battery cables around and polarize the generator. That's all it takes to make the polarity switch. I bought the matching Flamethrower coil to go with both of my gas tractors just be sure I had the correct coil. They are sensitive to the coil primary resistance. If I remember correctly, the 12V unit needs to have at least 3 ohms of primary circuit resistance. If the resistance is lower, the coil draws too much current and it burns up the module. When I bought mine, I figured if I used their coil and had a problem, they would be more likely to cover it without problems. The CA has had one on it for a couple years now. The Oliver 60 has had one for about as long and has been on several tractor rides where it ran all day. No problems.
I'll add that I also opened the plug gaps to .045. Big difference in ease of starting and smooth running.

You do have to swap the wires on the + (Ign) and - (Dist) terminals on the coil.
