what should the brake lock look like on a D17 ? a friend has ane and says he must move the little lock with his hand, not with a rod like on a d 14. a picture or drawing would help if we want to correct.

Our 57 D17 you have to bend down with your hand and flip it over. Our ser.III rearend for parts has the rod and knob by the shifter. They changed sometime but I don't know when.

Learn something new every day....wasn't aware that D17s had a brake lock mechanism other than the one with the rod and knob.
Hopefully this pic will show what the latter ones looked like. (Missing the knob at the top of the rod where the jam nut is)
We had a late '57 or early '58 D17D that had this kind of lock .

Had to look this up in my parts manual.
Didn't know this.
Upper left: tractors prio to #3270
Upper right: tractors #3270 thru #42000
Lower one is used on the series VI tractors.
