Cleaning this up . Has a small piece of steel wool and a large piece of hard dirt in it . Can I just buy more steel wool and start fresh ? Thanks

Sounds like it's missing the cap. You shouldn't be able to see the steel wool. With the cap missing every time it rains you would get rain water in the steering gear.

Cap's intact . Guess the cap and tube got knocked loose from the base . It just pulled apart . Maybe I need a new one ? I did clean it up and put it back on . Thanks
