Oil wick that lubes the throw out bearing. I guess the only way to get this thing out is with a pick, compressed air and patience. Any tricks on installing a new one without destroying it?

if you have the crank out, its a striaght shot thru the crank.. you can use a small drill to help get the old one out..even if you dont have the crank out, a small drill can help get it out from the rear..... YES.. its a pain putting the new one in.. rolling it on a table top to get it a few thousandths smaller than the hole can help.. book aint much help..

Soak the wick in oil for a couple of days, Tie a piece of mig welding wire (or other small strong wire) around one end and then with a lot of strength pull the wire and wick thru and trim excess.
Or plug the hole in the crank and put a dub of grease in the pilot bearing before mating the engine and bellhousing.

There are some serial number breaks in the WD/WD45 parts catalog that seem to indicate they used one for a while, then didn't use one at all for a while, and then put a bearing back in but changed to a different part number. My WD had an unsealed/unshielded open ball bearing (I presume so the wick oil could easily get into it) and I replaced it with a sealed/permanently lubricated bearing, removed the wick, and plugged the hole in the crank. I think I heard about doing that somewhere on here.
