Today's Big Iron auction had a 1983 L3 Gleaner with 2200 hr that brought $13,800!  Pretty good price for 35 year old combine...

She was actually an 85 by serial number, that gives you the big hydro among other things.
Gleaner: the properly engineered and built combine.

If you need parts for your Gleaner, we are parting out A's through L2's, so we may be able to help.

If hours are correct and it's clean and ready to go I'd say that's very reasonable. Green guys would pay double for a 7720 and not blink an eye

I don't think $13k would quite cover the taxes......well, actually it would, we don't pay sales tax on farm equipment.  Or do ya on a new combine?  I wouldn't know, never had a new combine.

The combine on the auction in Shameless' neck of the woods is actually an F3, but a green stripe F3 at that.  Not many green stripe F's around.  Let us know if you hear what it sells for.  Nice looking 7020 powershift on that sale too.  I have an '84 F3 hydro and really like it...great little machine!!

Most L's you see for sale around here tend to be in rough shape.  Well-cared-for examples still demand good money.  15k for a nice late-model L2/3 with heads is not unheard of at all.

$27,600 for a 7720?  Green guys may pay a lot, but I don't think quite that much.  I coulda (shoulda?) bought one with a grain head, nice shape, at auction for ~$9000 11 years ago.

If it was a late model green top 7720 with a 900 series flex head, the head alone was probably worth $9,000. About 7 or 8 years ago our neighbors paid $13K for a 920 flex head to put on their 9500 and thought they got a deal on it.

Why would anyone pay that much for a used 7720 when you could buy a IH axial flow? Or a conventional Gleaner.

Believe it was a 200 series flex head......18 foot maybe?  Also had a pickup head, but I think that sold separately (but CHEAP).  I don't know the vintage of the combine so to speak, but it was in fantastic shape.  The owner was the father of a classmate of mine, told me he loved that machine and how he took care of it.  Hours on the meter escape my memory......but I'd say "typical" for the age.

Tractor house lists 3 7720's for sale in MI right now, $8500, $12,900, $15,000.  Most people think tractorhouse prices are high, and are asking prices not sale prices, including me.

Oh well.  I do believe that was a great deal that day.
